Meryl

Meryl is Morris’s big sister and for her 499th birthday made a wish at Rushmere’s ‘Wishing Tree’. What was her wish and will it ever come true?!

THE WISHING TREE

Legend has it that nearly 900 years ago a star fell from the heavens crashing deep into the ground below where ‘The Wishing Tree’ now stands tall.

As a small sapling the tree always felt a little bit different. It knew it was destined to do great things. As it grew older and taller its roots grew stronger and deeper until one day the very tip of the longest root brushed lightly against the remains of the fallen star.

Now, everyone knows that stars are bestowed with an incredible magical power and this particular star was no exception.

Stars can GRANT WISHES but only to those that are truly pure of heart.

Even though the star had been buried for several hundred years its magical power still lingered, waiting for another worthy soul to come along.

The instant the tree’s root touched the star the magical power awakened and rose quickly settling quietly in the heart of the tree’s trunk.

Ever since that day the tree has been able to grant wishes.

So, how do you make a wish?

To make a wish you first have to find the Wishing Tree on the trail. Once found, walk around the Wishing Tree three times whilst singing your wish out loud. You then have to pick up three pieces of litter on your way home. If you are truly pure of heart your wish may just come true! GIVE IT A GO!

The Enchanted Tree Trail is a collaboration between Rubbish Walks CIC and Rushmere St Andrew Parish Council.
